| Value chains in Ecuador add jobs, markets, know-how |
|
Ten value chains improved performance and growth over the past two years, adding or strengthening more than 12,000 jobs, after receiving advice and technical assistance in marketing, production, management and governance from the Productive Network in Ecuador, the project announced at a dedicated conference in September. Anchor firms in the 10 Global Development Alliance projects—including products like heart of palm, canvas shoes, hot peppers and ceramics—also reported access to new markets, better production methods and appropriate strategies, as well as fortified relationships up and down the value chain. Attended by 187 public and private sector representatives, including the Minister of Industries and Productivity, the conference brought together the anchor and consulting firms to share their experiences over the past two years and exchange ideas. Already, for example, Productive Network reports that lessons on integrating small producers into a milk production chain have been studied and applied by the hot peppers chain.
